At our children’s dentist, we want to help your little one develop good dental health habits early on. Our pediatric dentistry specialists and our friendly team love each little smile that comes through our door, and it’s our goal to create a fun, educational, and comforting experience that positively affects the way your child feels about visiting the dentist.

It is always our goal to create healthy, happy smiles for each and every patient we see at our family dental practice. We believe that a healthy mouth leads to a healthy body and a healthy life!

Pediatric dentists are specialists in treating the unique needs of children. Our pediatric dental specialists have completed several years of specialty training beyond dental school. They limit their practice to treating the oral health needs of infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health needs.

Children have special dental needs, from birth through their late teen years. These special needs require the expert care of a dentist specializing in children’s oral health and development. The pediatric dentistry at Lovett Dental Katy provides this specialized treatment, ensuring your child’s best chance for an attractive, confident smile.

Infant Oral Health Exams

Infant oral health exams can determine if your infant has any oral issues or will in the near future.

Preventative Care

Pediatric dentistry also includes preventative care, such as routine checkups, cleanings, and fluoride treatments. Routine checkups allow the dentist to make sure teeth are healthy, and detect any underlying issues that can be dealt with or prevented. Periodic dental cleanings also prevent dental health issues and keep your child’s teeth clean.

Fluoride treatments help lower the risk of tooth decay. Fluoride is a mineral that we get from foods and water, but not enough to keep our teeth healthy. Topical fluoride can help strengthen the teeth above the gums while systemic fluoride strengthens the teeth above and below the gumline.

Our dentists will also recommend your child brush at least twice a day and floss to further prevent tooth decay.

Straightening Teeth and Improper Bite

Checkups and tests can determine if your child needs their teeth straightened. A bite that is not proper can also be corrected. Orthodontics work may be recommended for both, which may include spacers and/or braces to help straighten the teeth and correct a bite.

Repair Cavities and Defects

We can also repair cavities and other tooth defects. A cavity is a hole in a tooth that can grow larger in time and cause problems if not treated. Plaque is the cause of cavities. A dentist can correct a cavity by removing the rotting part of the tooth with a special drill. An anesthetic may be given during the procedure to prevent pain and relieve your child of anxiety. Cavities can be prevented with regular brushing, flossing, seeing a dentist at least twice a year, and reducing sugary foods and drinks.

Managing Gum Diseases

We can also manage children gum diseases and other dental conditions such as: short frenulae, pediatric periodontal disease, mucoceles, and ulcers.

Dental Injury Care

Tooth-related injuries can happen to children. We can treat dental injuries like displaced, fractured, or knocked-out teeth.

Dental Emergencies

We treat children’s dental emergencies as well. Please call us or come see us right away in the event of an accident or injury that results in damage to the mouth.
